Assigning an instrument to the staff You can assign a particular instrument to a track. METRO automatically assigns the clef and range according to the instrument you choose. To do so: Press and hold the mouse on the Instrument Name pop-up menu Move the cursor over the desired instrument and release the mouse button. This has several consequences. The preset name and abbreviation for the instrument appear in the name and abbreviation boxes. If you choose a non-percussion instrument, METRO sets the track to the appropriate clef and range. If you select a percussion instrument, METRO displays a grid that lets you assign a drum mapping to the notes on the track.
