Creating SubSections
Before creating SubSections you need to select the destination Section and the track within that Section where the SubSection will be contained. Selecting the
destination Section and then a track within that section displays that track in
the Graphic Editor window. You also need to change the selected track to the Notes display (piano roll) within the Graphic Editor window (using the Data Type pop-up menu in the track’s titlebar). You can only view SubSections within the Graphic Editor’s Notes display, the Event Editor, and the Tracks window Overview. You can not view SubSections in the Audio display of an Audio Track.
To create a SubSection:
- Make sure the Sections, Tracks and Graphic Editor windows are all open and visible.
- Select the destination Section that you want to contain the SubSection data by
clicking directly on the Section Number or Section Name of the appropriate
Section in the Sections window (don’t click the Section Selector Triangle). The Section Name becomes highlighted.
- Notice the Tracks window now displays the set of tracks in the selected
(current) Section.
- Select the track that you want to contain the SubSection data by clicking the
appropriate Track Name or Track Number in the Tracks window.
If you want to name the track, Option-click in the Name column and type an appropriate name, then press Return.
- Select the Section from which you’ll create a SubSection by clicking its Selector Triangle and holding down the
mouse (be sure not to click on the Section Number or the Name). A gray outline
appears around the selected Section.
- Continue to hold down the mouse, then drag the Section into the track display
area of the Graphic Editor window and place the left edge of the gray outline
at the point where you want the SubSection’s start location to begin.
- Release the mouse.
The Section you dragged is now a SubSection, and is contained in the track as
a SubSection event. You can view and edit SubSection events graphically in the
Notes display of the Graphic Editor window and as list information in the
Event Editor window.
You’ll see the SubSection event displayed in the Notes display of the Graphic
Editor window. A SubSection event is displayed with black Selector Triangles at
the event’s beginning and end points, and the SubSection name is displayed next to each
Selector Triangle. Use the Begin Selector Triangle to adjust the SubSection
event start time and the End Selector Triangle to adjust SubSection duration.
The duration of the SubSection is initially determined by the duration of the
Parent Section; however, you can subsequently edit SubSection duration, as well as
other parameters of SubSections. See Editing SubSection Start Time and Duration.
If you want to place more SubSections in the selected track, continue
selecting other Parent Sections in the Sections window, then drag them into the track
in the active Section to create SubSections.
