Extract Data

Extract Data allows you to cut or copy data using guidelines you specify. You can think of Extract Data as a 'surgical' Cut or Copy command since it allows you to cut or copy data from the current selection based on a very specific set of criteria. You can use this command to remove data you don't want or to isolate a narrow range of data you DO want. Cutting events that are outside of a specific musical scale would be an example of the former.

To extract data:

  1. In the Tracks or Graphic Editor windows, select the area you area you want to edit.

  2. From the Edit menu, choose Extract data.

The Extract data dialog box appears.

  1. Click either the Cut or Copy button, depending on what you want to do.

  2. Select the kind of data you want to edit from the various options.

If you want the operation to affect controllers, click either the All button (if you want all controllers affected), or the Only button (if you want to extract only one or two controller numbers). Enter the number of the controllers in the two data fields next to the Only button. Make sure the Controllers checkbox is checked. Enter the same controller number in both fields if you only want to affect a single controller number.

  1. Click OK.

All selected data is cut or copied.
