Creating and Naming a New Drum Set

In the Grapfic Editor window, make sure the data display is set to drum notes, You can change the display by clicking the track titlebar where it lists the type of data being displayed and choosing Drums from the pop-up menu. The drum set pop-up menu is in the far left of the Graphic Editor window and is labeled either Default Drums or with the name of a specific drum set. Click and hold the mouse on the Drum Set pop-up menu and choose New Set... in order to create a new Drum Set from scratch. A dialog box will appear asking you to enter the name of the new Drum Set; enter the name and click OK. The new Drum Set will now be accessible under the Drum Set pop-up menu.

Metro defaults to displaying only Drum Names that correspond to MIDI note events within a given Drum track. Therefore, no Drum Names will be displayed in the Drum Grid if there is no MIDI note data within a track. If a Drum track contains MIDI note data, Drum Names that have not been defined within the active Drum Set will appear listed as Unknown.

Option-click and hold the mouse on an 'Unknown' Drum Name to assign it a new name from the list of available Drum Names within the Drum Name pop-up menu. Choose Add New Drum (near the end of the list) if you want to enter a customized Drum Name, or to add a new Drum Name from Metro's list of Standard Drum Names; the new Drum Name will be added and saved to the current Drum Set.

If your Drum track contains no MIDI note data, you can build a new Drum Set drum by drum. Click and hold the mouse on New Drum and choose Add New Drum from the pop-up menu; select a Drum Name from the Assign to standard drum pop-up menu, or type a new Drum Name in the Add new drum to set and name it field. Enter the MIDI note corresponding to the newly entered Drum Name in the For pitch field.

exclaim2.gifImportant: When transposing from Drum Set to Drum Set, user-defined Drum Names will not be affected by the transposition process.

You can also display all the Drums within the currently selected Drum Set by choosing Add All Drums from the Drum Name pop-up menu. All Drum Names from the current Drum Set will be displayed within the Drum Grid - even if there is no MIDI data contained within the active drum track.

note02.gif Note: Drum Sets can also be created by choosing the Drum Sets option under the Setup menu. The Drums Sets dialog box allows Drum Sets to be imported, exported and modified.
