OMS Overview

Metro is an Open Music System (OMS) compatible application, which means you have the option to run it in the OMS environment. If you don't choose to run Metro with OMS you don't have to. However, OMS offers many advantages, especially when working with multiport MIDI interfaces like the Studio 5 or the MIDI Time Piece II.

note02.gifImportant: OMS will not work with Metro in OS X.

OMS simplifies how you work in your MIDI studio; the more complex your studio setup, the more you'll likely opt for using OMS. OMS allows you to indicate your MIDI setup once; thereafter, all OMS compatible applications access this information and can be updated if your OMS Studio Setup changes.

  • Install OMS according to the instructions that came with the OMS Setup or OMS Setup+Patches application.

  • Create a New Studio Setup document that reflects your MIDI studio (either create a Custom or Minimal Studio Setup document).

  • Make the OMS Studio Setup document Current and Save it (a diamond will appear in the titlebar to indicate it's Current).

  • Quit OMS if you want to conserve memory, or leave it open if you prefer.
