Rules for note entry

  • Click to the left of a note/rest to place a note on the same beat.

  • Click to the right of a note/rest to place a note on the next beat.

  • When you place a note on the same beat as another note with a different duration, METRO adds that note as a new voice.

  • The cursor changes with location, indicating where METRO is placing the note. See the table below:

Cursor Meaning

Met00020.gif This crosshair appears when the cursor is directly
over a staff and indicates that the next action
applies to this staff.

Met00021.gif This crosshair appears when the cursor is above
a staff and indicates that the next action applies
to the staff immediately below the cursor.

Met00022.gif This crosshair appears when the cursor is below
a staff and indicates that the next action applies
to the staff immediately above the cursor.

Met00023.gif This cursor appears whenever you move the mouse
over a symbol that can be moved/edited/etc,
regardless of the currently selected tool.

Met00024.gif This is the basic selection cursor for METRO’s
notation window. When this cursor is active,
you can drag a rectangle around symbols to
select them.
