Tips for using Note Spray
The Graphic Editor's Spray Note tool is a great way to enter a scratch melody quickly or experiment with melodies
over chord changes. Here are some tips to help you use this tool.
- Try this if you've entered Chords using the Chord Step Enter dialog or Chord
markers: Double-click the Spray Note tool, then choose the Follow Chord Markers option. That way, notes you enter with the Spray Note tool will follow the chord changes.
- Choose Auto-Advance from the Spray Note dialog. As you spray notes, Metro will move you through
the song. Leave this off if you want to enter chords.
- Experiment with different quantization values in the Spray Note dialog.
- Set Note Spray to different scales. For example, if your song is an E Blues, you can choose
"E Blues" in the Spray Note dialog. Then use the Spray Note tool to "improvise" a blues solo.
- Here's an idea if you want to experiment with pitches and rhythms together:
First, use the Spray Note tool to enter notes. Then select the notes and use the Rhythm Explorer window
to create some wild rhythms. Chances are it'll add some interesting
variations that you might not have imagined. See Rhythm Explorer.
