Using Song Building Mode in Overdub

Like Song building mode in Replace, Song building mode in Overdub mode allows you to record in a specific range of a Section again and again. With Overdub, however, Song building mode records each pass onto the same track and you do not have the option of rejecting the last pass. Each previously recorded pass plays back as you record the current pass, sort of like a sound-on-sound recording going to a single track.

To record in Song building mode in Overdub:

  1. Choose Record/Play from the Setup menu to open the Record and Play Setup dialog box.

  2. Under Record Loop Setup, click Song building mode.

  3. Under Record Mode click Overdub and Click OK..

  4. In the Transport window (Command-B), set the loop record range by clicking the door of the Punch icon (lower right corner) to open the Punch In/Out dialog box. Enter In and Out locations and click OK (you can also drag a loop record range in the Graphic Editor window).

  1. Record enable a track in the Tracks window by clicking its 'R' column.

  2. Check the Loop Record setting in the Transport to enable loop recording.

  3. Click Record or press Option-RMet90000.gifrecording begins as Metro receives MIDI data, and as soon as the Counter reaches the Punch In time (if Punch Record in enabled).

The Record Loop dialog box appears. The Reject Last Track and Mute buttons are dim because these options are not available when recording in Song building mode in Overdub mode.

If you want to pause at any time, click the Pause Recording button; click it again to continue Loop Recording.

When the last loop record track is recorded, recording stops and the Record Loop dialog box closes.
