Recording System Exclusive Events

You can record System Exclusive data (SysEx) from any of your MIDI devices onto any record-enabled track. Common examples are patch dumps and mode changes.

To record SysEx:

  1. Choose Record Criteria from the Setup menu and check System Exclusive to enable the recording of System Exclusive data.

  2. Choose Record/Play from the Setup menu and make sure either No Count off or Count off is selected. If Wait for First Note Before Recording is selected, Metro will not activate recording until it receives a note on event.

  3. Click Record or press Option-R.

  4. Initiate a SysEx dump from your MIDI device (please refer to the owner’s manual of your MIDI device for specific instructions regarding system exclusive transmissions).

  5. Stop recording when you’re satisfied.

To display SysEx data:

  1. Choose Show SysEx in Graphic Editor from the Switches menu to enable this option (there should be a check by this option when enabled).

  2. Notice the recorded SysEx data is displayed graphically in the Graphic Editor window as a vertical SysEx bar.

  3. Click the SysEx bar to open a System Exclusive Event Edit dialog box. From this dialog you can edit the SysEx event Name and the SysEx data.
