Thin Continuous

The Thin Data dialog allows the thinning of Pitch Bend, Mono and Poly After Touch, and Controller data. Thinning continuous data is particularly useful when running into MIDI bottlenecks during playback, such as buffer overflow messages, or to conserve event memory in a Metro file.

To thin continuous data:

  1. In the Graphic Editor or Tracks Overview, select the data across one or more tracks you want to edit.

  2. From the Options menu, choose Thin Continuous.

The Thin Data dialog box appears.

  1. Choose the type of data to be affected by checking the corresponding data type checkboxes under Select Data to Thin. If selecting Controllers, be sure to specify whether to affect all controllers or a specific controller number. Select all controllers by choosing the All button; select a single controller number by choosing the Only button and entering the desired controller number in the corresponding field.

  2. Under Select How to Thin, set the method regarding how to thin data by checking one or both of the following:

    • Choose Values closer than 'N' to set a threshold based on event value by which data will be thinned. For example, a setting of 10 will cause continuous data falling within an interval of less than 10 to be deleted.

    • Choose Values closer than 'N' clocks to set a time-based threshold by which data will be thinned. For example, a setting of 10 will cause continuous data between every 10 clock ticks to be deleted.

  1. Click OK.
