Harmony
Using the Harmony dialog box allows you to generate up to four parallel
harmony lines that relate to the key and scale of the selected notes.
To generate harmony lines:
- In the Graphic Editor or Tracks Overview, select the melody you want to
harmonize.
- From the Options menu, choose Harmony.
The Harmony dialog box appears.
- Choose either:
- In the Key of, if you want parallel diatonic harmony
- Choose a key and scale for your diatonic harmony in the two fields next to the
In the Key of button.
- Chromatically, if you want parallel chromatic harmony
- Enter the harmony line’s Root Note, which may be the same as the key signature, or a harmonically
related note.
- Check the number of harmonies you want (from 1 to 4) in the checkboxes under
Harmony relative to the Root.
- Assign the harmony to a track by entering the track number in the box labeled
Place harmony starting at Track. The name of the track will be displayed to
the right of the track number. If data already exists in that track, the new
data will be merged with the existing data.
- If you want to assign each line to an independent track, check the Assign
harmony to independent tracks box. The first harmony line will be placed on the track you entered in the
Place harmony starting at Track box. The second harmony line will be placed on
the next higher-numbered track, the third harmony line will be placed on the
next, and so on.
- Click OK.
