Harmony

Using the Harmony dialog box allows you to generate up to four parallel harmony lines that relate to the key and scale of the selected notes.

To generate harmony lines:

  1. In the Graphic Editor or Tracks Overview, select the melody you want to harmonize.

  2. From the Options menu, choose Harmony.

The Harmony dialog box appears.

  1. Choose either:

    • In the Key of, if you want parallel diatonic harmony

    • Choose a key and scale for your diatonic harmony in the two fields next to the In the Key of button.

    • Chromatically, if you want parallel chromatic harmony

  1. Enter the harmony line’s Root Note, which may be the same as the key signature, or a harmonically related note.

  2. Check the number of harmonies you want (from 1 to 4) in the checkboxes under Harmony relative to the Root.

  3. Assign the harmony to a track by entering the track number in the box labeled Place harmony starting at Track. The name of the track will be displayed to the right of the track number. If data already exists in that track, the new data will be merged with the existing data.

  4. If you want to assign each line to an independent track, check the Assign harmony to independent tracks box. The first harmony line will be placed on the track you entered in the Place harmony starting at Track box. The second harmony line will be placed on the next higher-numbered track, the third harmony line will be placed on the next, and so on.

  5. Click OK.
